Brenda (Taylor) Shiley

Brenda Joyce Shiley, 77, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away the morning of November 13, 2025. Born June 23, 1948 to the late Forest Taylor and Sylvia Dean (Jones) Lofton in Toledo, Ohio, Brenda devoted her life to caring for others. 
     Brenda will be remembered by many as a nurse, serving Riverside Hospital and later St Anne’s in Toledo and Tiffin, OH. For close to 40 years, she cared for thousands of babies and their mommas in Labor & Delivery and the NICU. She was as compassionate as she was knowledgeable, and hard-working—especially in the age of transitioning to computers. 
     Brenda was an avid reader, a crocheter of countless hats and scarves, and a forever learner. She loved singing Christmas songs, hymns, and “You Are My Sunshine”. Most of all, Brenda loved her family, her children, and her Lord. 
     Survivors include her son, Art Shiley III of Helena, OH; daughter, Trisha Shiley of Sellersburg, IN; niece Angie Taylor of Gibsonburg, OH; her siblings Victoria Taylor, Hildi (Dan) Nachtrab, Daniel (Barb)Taylor, Donna (Jerry) Hite, and Kathy Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, step-parents Dawn Lewis and Dalton Lofton, and brothers Junior Lofton and Jack Taylor. 
     At Brenda’s request there will be no services at this time but there’ll be a Celebration of Life in June 2026 at White Star Park, Gibsonburg, OH. 
     In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo, directed to the Nursing Fund for Excellence.
