John Edward “Happy” Pollard of Eminence, KY, passed away at home with his family by his side on January 21, 2026. Happy was born in Eminence, KY on March 10, 1931.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Orr Pollard; his mother and daddy, Anna Cyrene Mattingly Stivers and Franklin Pearce Stivers; along with two sisters, Gladys Beck and Doris Beller; and two brothers, Julius Pollard and Phillip Pollard.

Happy was a hard-working man who loved his family with all his heart. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was kind hearted and caring, although this could sometimes be camouflaged by his occasional gruff exterior. Happy was always receptive to, or responsible for a good joke. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the Chat-N-Nibble, Dairy Queen, and McDonalds shooting the bull with his friends. He would also occasionally stop by Prewitt’s Funeral Home in New Castle for a cup of coffee and a little friendly conversation.

He spent the majority of his work life in the electrical field as both an electrician and a State Electrical Inspector. Happy started out in business for himself doing electrical work under the name “Happy’s Electric” and was willing to take on the smallest job to the largest he could handle, which included wiring the original Eminence Speaker factory in Eminence. He lived by the motto of “if you are going to do something, do it right” and this held true as he transitioned from doing electrical work to performing electrical inspections in Shelby, Henry, Trimble and Carroll Counties for 16 years.

Happy grew up in the Catholic Church and had been a member of the Eminence Christian Church for over 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #282 and the Eminence I.O.O.F. Lodge #140, both of Eminence. In addition Happy was a member of both the Eminence Volunteer Fire Department and the Eminence Volunteer Emergency Squad for many years.

Happy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Christine Cartwright Pollard, who he loved dearly. Also surviving is his son Tim Pollard (Carla) of Eminence, KY; two grandsons: Andrew Pollard (Haley), and James Pollard (Alyssa), all of Pleasureville, KY; and six great-grandchildren: Silas, Landry, Neva, Corbitt, Maddie, and Gavin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Ursula Adams of Eminence, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Pollard, James Pollard, Steve Pollard, Mike Beck, Buster Adams, and Martin Metts.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Purvis, Tim Adams, Tony Adams, Bobby Johnson, Jerry Gilbert, Sam Frazier, and Bill Preble.
