Born on January 30, 1962, in Little Falls, Minnesota, Jon was raised in New Castle,
Kentucky.
He graduated from Henry County High School and earned his degree from the
University of Louisville. Jon proudly served four years in the United States Navy and
was honorably discharged. In 1998, he moved to Richmond, VA, where he made his
home.
Jon enjoyed fishing, watching basketball, playing poker and other card games, and
competing in fantasy football leagues. Competitive by nature, Jon never passed up a
chance to play a game, tell a joke, share a laugh, or spend time with family and friends.
Jon is survived by his son, Adam Smith of Richmond, Virginia, and his daughter, Emily
Smith of Richmond, Virginia; his brother Tony Smith of Shelbyville, Kentucky; his sisters,
Renee (Bobby) Roberts of Eminence, Kentucky, and Sharon (Scott Loeser) Smith of
Shelbyville, Kentucky; his nieces, Rebekah (Kevin) Roederer of Pendleton, Kentucky,
and Nikki (Jimmy) Sampson of Eminence, Kentucky; nephew, Jacob (Savannah)
Buckley of Athens, Alabama; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Earl L. Smith and Bonnie B. Smith.
Jon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at a later date. Details will be announced
when they become available.
