Michael Cheak Devine

Michael Devine, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. He was a man whose quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering love for his family left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born and raised in Smithfield, Michael carried with him the values of his small-town roots throughout his life — humility, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty. He proudly served in the Army Reserves, where he deepened his commitment to service and country, something he carried into his everyday life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Devine and Gus Raymond Devine, as well as his siblings Betsy, Patsy, Martha, and Buddy. Though he mourned their loss deeply, Michael carried their memory with him always.

Michael is survived by his wife Patrice. One of his greatest joy was his beloved wife. Their bond was one of true partnership and enduring love. He found daily purpose in making her happy in every way possible — through simple acts of love, shared laughter, and constant devotion. Together, they built a life full of warmth, made even more special by their three beloved dogs who were always close by.

A proud and loving father, he is also survived by his daughter, Melissa, and sons, Michael, Nolan, and Logan.

He was also a cherished grandfather to Whit, Kate, Ann Abbott, Theodore, Tucker, Campbell and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of his newest granddaughter, Palmer.

His children and grandchildren carry forward his strength, character, and deep love for family. His guidance and presence shaped their lives and will continue to echo through generations.

Some of his favorite moments were the quiet ones — sitting in the driveway, soaking up the sun, and watching the world go by. A lifelong Dodgers and Kentucky fan, he never missed a game on TV. It was in these simple pleasures that he found his peace.

Michael will be remembered for his selflessness, steady presence, and deep devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his love and memory will live on forever.

There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
