Sherry Elizabeth Vetter Burns, 79 passed away peacefully on August 08, 2025 at her home in Oldham County, Kentucky. Sherry was born on December 11, 1945 in Louisville, KY to Stewart and Bernadette Hattemer Vetter. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Dayton University, and the University of Berkeley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Brother Brian Vetter, CFX.

Sherry lived with Frontotemporal dementia in her final years, a journey that impacted her life and the lives of her loved ones. Even while struggling with the disease she maintained her kind and passionate personality. She was a teacher, a gardener and community activist who taught neighbors how to stand up and express themselves to local governments and to hold them accountable. She will be remembered for her love for gardening and the wonderful meals she enjoyed cooking for friends.

Sherry had a genuine affection (affinity) for children as evidenced by her teaching (tenure) with various schools in California and Kentucky (Notable schools include Notre Dame Elementary, Kittredge School and Convent of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco, California). She followed the words of John F. Kennedy to promote world peace by joining the Peace Corps after college, teaching English to children in the Ivory Coast of Africa. At family gatherings, she was prone to spending her time with children rather than adults. Sherry found the children to be more interesting! She encouraged them to be the best version of themselves with the desire to set high aspirations.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony, her sister, Suzanne Wilcoxson of Louisville, KY and brother, Blaine David Vetter (Andrea) of Smartsville, CA; along with her new friend and devoted caregiver Debbie.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Even in the late stages of her dementia she was still teaching friends and strangers about the power of a compliment. Always generous with her compliments and rewarded with a smile.
